PRIVATE: This event is only open to dues-paying Leadership Alumni.
David Sachs will engage in a conversation with Ms. Alsop to explore her personal journey to leadership, followed by an exclusive opportunity for participants to watch her leadership in action as she leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and two choirs (Peabody’s Children’s Chorus and the University of Maryland College Park Concert Choir) in a working rehearsal of Mahler’s Third Symphony.
Marin Alsop is an inspiring voice who believes that “music has the power to change lives.” MS. Alsop made history with her appointment as Music Director of the BSO in 2007. In Baltimore, Alsop launched OrchKids, for the city’s underserved youth, and the BSO Academy program for adult-amateur musicians. She became Music Director of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra in 2012 and Chief Conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2019. Alsop conducts the world’s major orchestras and, in 2013, became the first female conductor of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms. Alsop is the only conductor to receive the MacArthur Fellowship, and she is Director of Graduate Conducting at the Peabody Institute.
